Comfortable Space
Places that are yours
My room is definitely mine, but it feels noisy, so many
images and icons, mementos of my past and treasures to escape through.
Harkness is mine, I’ve spent so much time there I can’t help
feeling possessive.
The basement is mine, basements often are. no one else wants
the basement, no one contests it. I can be alone down there.
Don’t get me wrong, I like people, but people change who we
are. we filter our words and thoughts, to be polite, to share in a common
topic, to come together in community and recognize this person, this other. No
matter how we deny it we filter for the sake of others.
But alone, we are ourselves. Whatever that means. In the
woods, in the water, under the ground, that is where I find solitude, and the
freedom to hear myself, and not worry about any other.
