Windy Day

May 11, 2010

Windy days are tailored days, specially suited to a handful of things, and no matter how hard you try you can’t make the others fit.

Kites fly high on a windy day. Trees weave and sway back and forth on a windy day. Leaves flutter like bird wings on a windy day, and through it all there’s the song of the wind. Whether you hear a voice, or an instrument, you hear a song. Rising to a roar, falling to a whisper, it howls and hums, shaking your sturdy home and rattling where it can.

It’s not a good day for a hike, when everything you wear tries to take flight. The water slaps a bit too high, and tries to roll right over your head. And any course you steer wanders off, no matter which way the wind is blowing.

Library Book

The mantle over the fireplace, three little arched alcoves, covered in rings of pearls and crisscrossing vines. Miniaturized recesses in which flowers and figurines can be placed, adding a splash of color to the soft white surface. The same tiny pillars which stand at attention here are echoed in every wall and corner, their big brothers hold up the domed ceiling. Every carved curve and swirl recreated in miniature acros...

Deadline

January 15, 2010
[if !mso]

Deadlines; we all have them, sometimes we hate them. There’s always that finishing touch, or the last piece, but time’s up, and they want it now. On the other hand, deadlines move us to action. When he came back he talked about how the streets were very crowded, full of people without a purpose, clamoring for anything, reaching for everything. His n...

Something That Made Me Laugh This Week

By Adam Gentry

I was busy, engrossed in something. Stepping out of the study to get what I needed, a glass of water, and then go back. There is just too much to do. But I stopped, something tugged on my ear, a commercial on TV.

A young couple, in bed, talking, half asleep. She was saying how “Christmas isn’t till tomorrow” b...

List of Things I want to get rid of or let go

By Adam Gentry

I have many books, many DVDs, and many more trinkets and keepsakes from times gone by, but I have no desire to let them go just yet. Then again, I’m not increasing by much, and I would argue that there is much value in what I have. I suppose if someone said “choose from among” I could rank and let go of some, some old toys, some l...
