The Coming
Fall
Initially fall fills me with a sense
of dread. The chill of winter begins to rear its head, sneaking out of its hole
every now and then to chill the air. But Fall is the beginning of three of the
grandest holidays imaginable, beginning with Halloween. Mischief, fright, and
fun. Sometimes it’s portrayed as the despair of truly unspeakable crimes, but
other times it’s mischief, humor, and the strange mix of fear and laughter.
Children would masquerade as monsters, and everyone would go a little crazy. I
love a good scare, and there are some masters. The colors go bright, and people
go out at night. But it’s a difficult thing, balancing between fear and terror,
fun and despair.
